JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – No. 12 Dordt (Iowa) College used a 14-3 run in the third and fourth quarters to help open up a 14-point lead against the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team, defeating the Jimmies 74-56 Monday night at Harold Newman Arena.
Jamestown trailed 36-21 at the half while shooting 30.8 percent (8-for-26) from the field.
The third quarter saw the Jimmies play their way back into the game, outscoring the Defenders 21-8 to get within a basket at 44-42 with 4:16 in the period.
Dordt scored six of the last eight points in the third, then 11 of the fourth quarter’s first 14 points to push their lead to 61-47 with just over five minutes to go.
Two nights after playing a four-overtime game with the fourth-ranked team in the country, the Jimmies’ lack of energy affected their fourth quarter performance.
Erika Feenstra and Annie Rhinesmith each had 16 points for Dordt (19-8, 12-7 GPAC). Kenzie Bousema came off the bench to score 14. Siennah Stamness pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Mackensi Higlin (SO/Mandan, ND) led Jamestown (12-15, 6-13 GPAC) with 15 points. Emma Stoehr (SO/Woodbury, MN) added 13 while Paige Schmidt (JR/Tappen, ND) was also in double figures with 10. Jenna Doyle (SR/Princeton, MN) grabbed eight rebounds to go along with six points and four blocked shots.
The Jimmies travel to Omaha, Neb., Saturday to face College of Saint Mary at 2 p.m.
