JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Over 200 7th & 8th Grade students in the region will be coming to Jamestown to participate in the community’s first ever “Real World” Financial Literacy Camp on April 11th.

Originally planned in March, the camp was moved to April after inclement weather. The camp has been held in Bismarck, Fargo, and other communities in the past, but this will be the first time the event has been held in Jamestown. Kayla Curtis is chair for the Real World Camp Jamestown planning committee.

Curtis pointed out that students will then need to make decisions on their “monthly income” while trying to keep up their budget. Curtis says students are coming from Wishek, Montpelier, Barnes County North, Kulm, Edgeley, and Valley City.

Chelsey Francis is a committee member of the Real World Camp Jamestown planning committee.

Francis says the highlight follows the morning of courses when students frequent “local businesses” while conducting financial matters and navigating potential debt problems.

Curtis says local sponsors and businesses are the main reason the event is possible. All the students will be bused in to the Jamestown Civic Center from their respective schools.

The hope for the committee is to grow the event next year.
