CITY (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Police Department and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office are joining several other law enforcement agencies across North Dakota and the country to enforce the annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

From May 21 to June 3 the North Dakota Department of Transportation and all law enforcement agencies will work together to reduce the number of highway fatalities and injuries due to non-seat belt use.

In 2011, one unbuckled occupant died every five days in North Dakota and 66 percent of individuals killed in motor vehicle crashes were not wearing their seat belt. Remember it takes 3 seconds to buckle a seat belt and it can save your life.

Officers will not give warnings, they’ll ticket anyone not buckled up. A seat belt ticket in North Dakota is $20 while one in Minnesota is $125 dollars.
