CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–After a bit of a rough outing a week ago at Rose Creek, the Hi-Liner golf team put themselves back in the mix to qualify for a state meet berth with a sixth place finish during a full Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) meet at Crossroads Golf Course in Carrington Tuesday.

Valley City shot a team 320, just two shots back of Red River for fifth, only five shots behind third-place Wahpeton, but also only a shot ahead of Fargo Davies.  Sixth place at the EDC meet qualifies for the state meet.

It was an odd day of scoring for Valley City, as Hi-Liner Nick Jenson, likely the top golfer on the team, had a score that did not count, finishing with an 82, fifth out of the six Hi-Liners.

But senior Tyler Stevens (above) picked up the slack, leading the team with a 79.  Jared Lentz added an 80, one of his better meets of the year on a course he likes.  His first-day score during the state Class “B” meet as an seventh-grader.kept the Hi-Liners in the running for the state title.

Ben Sorenson and Dustin Miller each added 81s to round out the Hi-Liner scoring.

The season continues this Friday and Saturday with the Eest-West sover meet at Bios de Sioux in Wahpeton.
