VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com) – The Valley City State University women’s basketball team suffered just its second conference loss of the season on Friday, falling 56-53 to Presentation College.
The Saints outscored the Vikings 20-12 in the fourth quarter as they rallied for the road victory.
Valley City State drops to 9-10 overall and 6-2 in the NSAA. Presentation College improves to 9-13 overall and 4-4 in conference play. VCSU is now tied with Mayville State and Bellevue University for first-place in the NSAA standings.
Friday’s result comes just six days after the Vikings defeated the Saints 85-70 in Aberdeen, S.D. Friday night was Presentation College’s first win ever in Valley City. The Vikings are now 22-2 against the Saints dating back to the 2004-05 season.
Presentation College jumped out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter Friday, but the Vikings outscored the Saints 17-6 in the second quarter to take a 27-21 lead into the break. VCSU held a 41-36 lead after three quarters before the Saints rallied in the fourth.
Alli Vandal and Dierra Diegel both scored 10 points to lead the Vikings, while Mackenzie Huberadded eight points and nine rebounds. VCSU shot just 32 percent overall (20-62) and were 2-for-17 on 3-pointers. The Vikings went 11-for-17 at the free throw line.
Tone Oglesby led the Saints with a game-high 17 points. Oglesby hit three 3-pointers, part of a 6-for-19 3-point shooting performance by the Saints. Victoria Stewart added 10 points, while Allison Cox chipped in nine. Presentation College shot 36 percent in the game, going 18-for-50 from the field. The Saints went 14-for-21 at the free throw line.
Valley City State committed 19 turnovers while the Saints had 15. VCSU held a 42-32 rebounding advantage, including a 16-7 edge on the offensive glass.
