OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time since December 11th, the Oakes Tornadoes girls basketball team dropped a game losing Thursday night 60-50 at home VS Carrington.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 12 point lead in the first quarter and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the half. With an 11 point lead halfway through, Carrington showed no signs of slowing down, but the 3rd quarter flipped the game upside down.
Oakes went on a 20-9 run through quarter number three to tie the game up headed to the 4th quarter. Nicole Schmitz was the catalyst as she had 8 of her 18 points in the 3rd quarter.
As soon as Oakes gained the momentum, Carrington put an end to it once the 4th quarter began. The Cardinals went on to outscore the Tornadoes by 10 and kept Oakes to just nine 4th quarter points.
Oakes’ head coach Brennan Hack said he was proud of the way his team battled, and he expects another encounter with Carrington on the horizon.
Leading scorer for Carrington was McKenzie Johnson with 13 points.
With the win, Carrington improves to 11-2 while Oakes drops to 12-3.
