JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The final day of the the three day Stutsman County Invitational Boys Class B Basketball Tournament was held on Saturday with four placing games at the Civic Center, here are the results:

7th place – Midkota 49 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 42, OT

Aaron Huff hit a big three pointer to pull the Thunder within one point with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Michael Thomas hit a game tying free throw with three seconds left to send the game into overtime. The Mustangs outscored the Thunder in overtime 11-4 to get the victory and improve to 2-6 overall, MPB drops to 0-7 overall. Freshman Logan Topp led all scorers with 22 points including five 3-pointers, five of those points he had in overtime for the Mustangs. Eighth grader Joshua Moser led MPB with 16, Thomas ended with 13 and Huff eight points.

5th place – Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 50  South Border 37

Jamison Fettig led NGS with 14 points, Carson Thompson added 13 including three treys and Ethan Kleppe had 11 to help the Imperials take home the consolation championship at the Jamestown Civic Center. Ty Buchholz led the Mustangs with 14 points including three treys. NGS improves to 3-5 overall, the Mustangs drop to 2-5 overall.

3rd place – Ellendale 55 Carrington 49

The Ellendale Cardinals improve to 5-2 overall as they win the battle of the Cardinals in the third place game, Carrington falls to 3-5 overall. Carrington led 28-21 at halftime, but Ellendale outscored Carrington 34-21 in the second half to secure the victory. Seth Nelson led the way for Carrington with 17 points, but was in and out of the fourth quarter with an ankle injury, his status unknown at the time of this story, Payton Smith added 11. Hunter Thorpe led Ellendale with a game high 19 points, Austin Molan added 16, seven rebounds and three steals.

Championship- Kidder County 66, Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier 50

Through one half of the 2019 Stutsman County Invitational Championship there was no separation between the two teams, but thanks to 21-7 3rd quarter, the Kidder County pulled away from EKM to win this year’s tournament.

The two teams put together almost identical stat lines in the 1st half and found themselves tied at 14 after one quarter and tied at 29 after two quarters. Kidder County strung together a 13-2 run to start the 2nd half to pull away. The biggest difference in the 2nd half was free throws. Kidder County shot 19 attempts, making 15, while EKM only attempted four.

Leading the way for the Wolves was Austin Schmidt with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Leading scorer for the Rebels was Alex Huber with 15 points.

Kidder County improves to 5-4 on the season, with three straight wins, and EKM drops its first game of year as the Rebels fall to 6-1.
