CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In the battle of the Cardinals and battle of top 10 teams in Class B girls basketball Saturday afternoon, No. 8 Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich defeats No. 9 Carrington 55-38. LEM improves to 5-2 overall, Carrington’s seven game win streak comes to an end and they drop to 7-2 overall.
Carrington had the lead for a short time in a back-and-forth first quarter, leading 6-4, but Langdon’s starting forward and Junior Callie Ronningen dropped in 11 points to help the Cardinals of LEM to a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Langdon/EM led by nine at the half as well 32-23. In the third quarter, both teams combined for just 15 points. Ronningen led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Kaitlynn Scherr with 15, including three 3-pointers, Morgan Freije added 10 for the Cardinals of Langdon/EM. Carrington had two players with nine each, Hannah Hagel and Addison Hoornaert. Kayden Mehring added eight points.
Next up for Carrington will be on Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 against fellow District 5 team, the Ellendale Cardinals at the new East gym in Carrington.
