JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified an individual following a high speed pursuit Thursday evening North of Jamestown.

Captain Bryan Niewind reports that at around 7:12 PM on December 27th, a trooper observed a vehicle backed onto an approach near the Stutsman County Fairgrounds. The vehicle was running and was occupied.

“The vehicle had one headlight out and expired registration,” Captain Niewind stated. “The trooper approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver. When the trooper asked the driver to exit the vehicle, the driver fled in the vehicle nearly striking the troopers patrol vehicle.”

The vehicle fled from the Fairgrounds to Highway 52, traveling North at a high rate of speed. At Buchanan, the vehicle turned around and fled southbound toward Jamestown.

“North of Jamestown, the vehicle fled west on a gravel township roadway. The trooper discontinued the pursuit because of poor road and weather conditions,” Captain Niewind reports.

The suspect has since been identified, but will not be released at this time.

“The suspect has not yet been charged and the incident remains under investigation,” Captain Niewind added.
