JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Dollars for Scholars program will be collecting new and lightly used shoes on Saturday, January 12th to be donated to those in need.

The collection will happen during the January 12th Blue Jays vs. Patriots basketball games. According to the club, 600,000,000 shoes every year end up in landfills.

“Our goal is to collect 7,500 pair of shoes,” the club stated.

Collected shoes are donated or used to support micro-enterprise vendors in third world countries. Micro-enterprises are small businesses in developing nations.

They are typically operated by one person or family and friends, depending on size.
