VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Discussions are underway for the proposed Phase II of the Hanna Field Athletic Complex.

During a special school board meeting on December 13 a number of proposals were discussed.

Superintendent Josh Johnson said the board approved of a motion to schedule a public forum in January.

He said 100 percent of the funding for Phase II will have to come from donations and sponsorships.

The cost for the proposed Phase II project is estimated at $2.8 million.

The following is a news release from Superintendent Josh Johnson.

The Hanna Field Fundraising Committee and Valley City Public School Board are announcing plans to provide information and receive feedback on a potential Phase II-Hanna Field Athletic Complex “Restoring the Legacy” project. A public presentation of Phase II is being planned for mid-January in the Hi-Liner Activity Center Lobby. A date and time for this presentation will be announced at the beginning of January.

In the summer of 2018, VCPS completed Phase I of the “Restoring the Legacy” project. This phase included building a new track and field, athletic storage facility, and also fixed water drainage issues. The district sold bonds worth $2 million with plans to use the building fund to repay these bonds over the next 19 years. Additionally, the fundraising committee was able to raise $500,000 from generous donations and sponsorships within our community and from our Hi-Liner friends and alumni (see attached list of donors and sponsors).

A Phase II “Restoring the Legacy” project at Hanna Field would possibly include the following areas: a new entrance, ticketing booth, restrooms, concessions, parking lot, and softball field. The plans for this phase and the cost estimates will be shared at the presentations in January. The funding for a Phase II project would be raised by donations, sponsorships, and naming right opportunities.
