VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The offensive firepower of West Fargo Sheyenne delivered Tuesday night. The Mustangs fended off two big comeback attempts by Valley City to defeat The Hi-Liners 71-44; giving them their first loss of the young season.
A quick start forced VCHS to use their first time out just over a minute into the game. The Hi-Liners settled in and tied it at 4 before Sheyenne raced back to take 33-17 halftime lead.
Five quick points put The Hi-Liners back into the game. Twice in the second half they pulled the game to 10, the last time coming at 54-44 with 7:37 remaining. Behind 16 points from Maggie Manson, The Mustangs ended the game on a 17 point run.
Josie Berntson and Taryn Dieterle both scored 12 points to pace Valley City. Jadyn Dieterle added 8. Free throw shooting hampered The Hi-Liners, they were 4 for 16.
Manson finished the night with 28 points for Sheyenne, Yasmina Dokara scored 14.
The win was the 3rd in a row for The Mustangs, they play Shanley Friday. The Hi-Liners are 2-1, they also play Friday heading to West Fargo.
