JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota WWI Centennial Committee has planned a series of community events leading up to the centennial of “The war to end all wars.”
The committee will sponsor lectures and discussion in six cities including Williston, Bismarck, Fargo and more. Jamestown will be host to this event on October 30th at the Historic 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse starting at 7:30 PM.
Courthouse Site Supervisor Steve Reidburn says they will bring in Susan Wefald and Darrell Dorgan to moderate the events. According to the committee, the programming is paid for “with a grant from the North Dakota Humanities Council to fund the project.”
“The programs will begin with a 10-minute video presentation with an overview of WWI. That will be followed by a 20-30-minute talk about WWI; how it began, how the US became involved, the effort on the home-front, North Dakota’s participation, the impact on the world today.”
Reidburn says then on November 11th, the date World War I ceased, he and David Bratton will do a short presentation in front of the courthouse at 11 AM.
Each event is free and open to the public.
