VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s time to Shatter the Silence.

Valley City State University would like to invite the community to help Shatter the Silence walk tonight (October 1st) at 8pm at Lokken Stadium.

VCSU Director of Residence Life Stephanie Roelfsma said national statistics show that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men have been the victim of attempted or completed sexual assault. She said only 1/3 of sexual assaults are reported in the U.S.

Roelsfma said there is clearly a silence and stigma that surrounds sexual assault. She said our goal with this walk is to raise awareness for sexual assault, support survivors, empower our students and the community to be part of the solution.

Everyone is welcome to come out and support this effort by walking with others in the community.
