(NewsDakota.com) – A fundraiser Saturday at the Jamestown Civic Center will raise money to help purchase a remote operated underwater vehicle for the Jamestown and Stutsman County water rescue team.

The ROV fundraiser in memory of Darrin Ackerman kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Civic Center and runs until early Sunday morning. There will be vendors, a silent auction, a knoephla soup feed, face painting, balloon animals and more.

Several live bands will play from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., and a cash bar will be available during that time.

The fundraiser has been largely organized by Leanne Buckley, her family and friends of Ackerman, who died last December after falling through the ice in the Jamestown Reservoir while ice fishing. His body was not found for eight days until being discovered by an ROV from the Fargo area water rescue team.

Buckley was Ackerman’s longtime partner, and says she’s helping raise funds to purchase an ROV so future families and friends don’t have to go through what Ackerman’s family and friends went through during the eight days of searching.
