JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – District 29 Senator Terry Wanzek, Representative Craig Headlund, and Representative Chet Pollert all have the same focus heading into the next session pending their reelection this fall.

Wanzek, Headlund, and Pollert are all seeking reelection in the November 6th General Election. They all sat down with NewsDakota to talk about why they’re running for reelection and a big focus for each of them heading into the next legislative session in North Dakota.

Representative Pollert says a concern of his is state funding.

Pollert says they’ve kept education funding the same as well as human services. He says they’ve still funded infrastructure projects, but that will be a big item of focus.

Representative Headlund says the $280 million plan will aim at rebuilding infrastructure projects outside the oil patch. The proposal came earlier this year after some non-oil producing lawmakers brought up that the booming western part of the state was getting too large a share of the money from oil.

Headlund says the needs are plenty and money will be short, but he says it’s doable.

Senator Wanzek says the focus is funding primary needs.

Wanzek says they want to be cautious not to harm the business friendly environment while continuing a “pro-growth” approach.

The plan does not tap interest from Legacy Fund approved by voters eight years ago. It now holds more than $5.2 billion, and is expected to have about $400 million in earnings that could be considered in the next budget cycle.
