JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The National Buffalo Museum of Jamestown has reported that the new white buffalo added to the herd earlier this year has passed away.

Earlier this year in May, Museum Director Ilana Xinos announced the new addition to the herd. Born at Shirek Buffalo Ranch in Michigan, North Dakota, the buffalo was a descendant of White Cloud, who lived with the herd at the National Buffalo Museum for roughly 20 years.

When the calf was first introduced, it was reported to be on a trial basis. Xinos says sadly it didn’t work out.

“We’re sad to say we found the buffalo had passed away due to natural causes,” Xinos said Wednesday. “The calf was introduced as a foreign member of the herd and was not accepted. The animals live on 200 acres of land and are not domesticated, so the calf’s death was natural.”
