JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission will be looking into an agreement with the Barnes County Commission regarding a township road that Barnes County would like to improve for use.
Commissioner Dave Schwartz informed the commission that he had had several discussions with some Barnes County Commissioners regarding the crossover road from Highway 9 to County Road 62. He says Barnes County has about 1.5 miles of the road with the other 2 miles located in Stutsman County. He says activity with the school’s and Spiritwood, there’s been some concerns raised.
County Road Superintendent Mickey Nenow says the project wouldn’t be a huge undertaking and would require minimal upkeep as it would remain a gravel road. Schwartz says Barnes County hasn’t approved of the project yet because it is contingent on Stutsman County gaining ownership of their part of the road.
Schwartz says there is a lot of support from both sides. He says Barnes County was looking to spend upwards of $60,000 to $70,000 to improve the access and right-of-way on the road. Schwartz says Barnes County would be willing to blade the entire stretch into Stutsman County if the commission agreed. With major traffic from Stutsman County to Rogers and movement into Spiritwood, making the road unrestricted would be beneficial to the region. No action was taken at the meeting.
