JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – During a committee meeting in July, it was learned that a local business wanted to step up and become the new bus depot in Jamestown.
Cory Kunerth with XLT Taxi came before the committee to ask about installing parking designation that would be no parking other than bus parking between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM in front of his business for Jefferson Bus Lines.
The bus depot moved back to its original location next to the railroad tracks after the Jamestown Bus Stop closed due to the early morning hours of Jefferson Bus Lines and anticipated revenue being lower than expected.
Kunerth says he has been in contact with Jefferson Bus Lines and he was requesting the no parking ordinance in front of his business to assist the company.
Kunerth pointed out that his building along Main Street in the middle of town would provide a suitable stop for those taking the bus out of Jamestown.
Kunerth says his taxi is operating 24 hours already and his office would remain open for the depot. Buses currently arrive in Jamestown at 12:20 AM and 3:20 AM.
Kunerth says he’ll look to possibly build a section for a waiting area as well as a bathroom. He says he will also see about becoming a spot that individuals could buy bus tickets too.
Councilmember Steve Brubakken stated that the late Charlie Kourajian would have appreciated someone from the community stepping up to provide the service.
The committee approved the motion.
