CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The VCHS Hi-Liner speech team finished in fourth place at the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) speech meet this past weekend.

The Hi-Liners qualified 15 speakers for the state meet, with five alternates. 

Valley City won three championships.  Beth Berntson won the persuade event, Jessica Gylden was a champion in extemporaneous programmed reading, and Gylden and Destiny Winker teamed to win humorous duo.

Other students to qualify in various events were Sunni Watkins, Dempsey Williams, Adam Hart, Nick Lee, Tanner Clark, Aislinn Fogarty, Tia Wagar, Keely Fogarty, Samantha Sayler, Nathan Bader, Mikaylah Ross, and Carl Vinje. 

The state speech meet is this Saturday in Devils Lake.
