JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met in regular session Monday, July 2nd to address several items.

During the Mayor & Council Member’s reports, Councilman Dan Buchanan brought up the planned James River Cleanup. He said he recently checked out the river and found it low enough to see the numerous branches and items of debris it contained.

City Engineer Travis Dillman informed Buchanan and the council that they were still in the bid receiving process.

Dillman says they’ll talk with contractors after bids are received to see if they are comfortable with completing the cleaning in the allotted time. He said residents can see how needed the river cleanup is with the current low levels of the James River and all the noticeable debris.

Bids will be opened and awarded later this month.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich informed the council and public that he would appreciate their time and consideration with many budgetary decision that will be made in the coming days.

Later in the meeting, the council looked authorizing and approving Mastel’s Heating & A/C Inc. to replace two 5-ton condensing units, line sets, and expansion valves at the Wastewater Plant at a cost of $11,987. Councilman Steve Brubakken asked if the estimate included electric and tax/freight. Ron Olson with the Wastewater Plant informed the council that those costs would not be incurred.

The council approved the resolution.

The council also approved a resolution to authorize and approve installation of a security system at city facilities at a cost of $24,496 and approved Dan Poland Machine, Inc. to repair the lime press at the water plant. Councilman Dave Steele informed the council about what the lime press does.
