JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – During the June primary election, some hiccups caused delays in the Stutsman County results.
Stutsman County Auditor Nicole Meland says they had multiple issues on election night in the rural polling locations.
With roughly 35 votes cast in Kensal and 50 in Pingree, Meland says she would like the commission to consider closing those polling locations in the next primary.
Meland says with doing Jamestown elections and the difficulty in finding poll workers, the commission may want to consider charging the city for the county’s service.
Meland says it’s a huge expense to cover the primaries, with 2016 costing the county around $25,000 without staff fees. Meland says it’s just a thought at this time, but would like the commission to consider the discussion.
Commissioner Dave Schwartz says he believes the city should provide some poll staff in the future since they currently incur no costs.
Meland says she will contact City Administrator Sarah Helleckson about working with the county on staffing and costs of the elections.
