CITY (NewsDakota.com)–It was another tough day at the yard for the Viking baseball team Wednesday.
The Vikings allowed a seven-run rally by Northern State in the top of the seventh to lose a five-run lead and drop a 9-7 decision to Northern State in game one of a doubleheader. The Vikings would then manage just three hits in a 6-0 loss in the nightcap.
Valley City State managed just five hits in the first game, but scored five unearned runs on five Wolves errors to build a 7-2 lead. Preston Jensen (Jr., Valley City, ND) knocked in two runs to spark the offense.
But Jensen ran into problems when he took the hill in the seventh, walking three and allowing two hits, surrendering five runs, three of which were earned. Colin Waldner () finished the inning and took the loss, allowing two unearned runs.
The Vikings managed just three hits in the nightcap. Scott Stephenson () took the loss as the Vikings pitched both games by committee.
Valley City State is now 10-21 overall, and faces Jamestown College this weekend in a four-game series.
