CITY,N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Police received 10,555 calls for service in 2013 compared to 8,477 in 2012 according to the annual police report released this month. A call for assistance doesn’t always result in a report.
Police Chief Fred Thompson says the department worked on 1,158 case reports in 2013 compared to 789 in 2012. There were 43 drug related case reports in 2013 compared to 34 in 2012. Breaking and entering reports jumped to 40 in 2013 compared to 26 in 2012 in Valley City.
Thompson says there were 583 adult arrests in 2013 compared to 414 in 2012. He says Juvenile arrests dropped to 54 in 2013 compared to 63 in 2012.
Thompson says the training and professional development of existing and new police officer’s has helped the department keep its focus over the last two year to benefit the community.
Thompson says thanks to the support of the Valley City Commission, construction of a new evidence vault was completed. He says, “This will allow the police department to store its evidence following the best practices with the law enforcement community and will help support any prosecutions that may result from the evidence being stored.” Thompson says the new evidence vault and cataloging system should be up and running later this year.
