H. Sjolin, 72, of Oakes, ND, passed away July 13, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes.

Richard Henry was born to Henry and Dorothy (Nelson) Sjolin on March 27, 1941 at Britton, SD. He grew up and attended school in Oakes, graduating from Oakes High School with the class of 1960. Richard was well known for his leather hand tooling; crafting many wallets, saddlebags, checkbook covers and repairing saddles, bridles, baseball gloves or anything that people brought to him for repair. He also worked summers for the Park Board and did maintenance work for the city, riding his three wheel bicycle around picking up trash. Richard was very interested in city politics and also horticulture. He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, and was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Richard is survived by three brothers, Marvin (Suzie) Sjolin, Citrus Heights, CA, Donald (Linda) Sjolin, Gilby, ND, and Gerald (Sandy) Sjolin, Pelican Rapids, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Carl and Ida Nelson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Oakes, ND, with the funeral to follow starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oakes View Cemetery. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
