L. Winburn, 86, of Houghton, SD passed away July 12, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes, ND.

Harold Lloyd was born on February 2, 1927 in Mitchell, SD. When he was six months old, he was adopted by his parents, Harry and Mary (Strong) Winburn. He attended grade school and one year of high school in Houghton and two years of high school in Hecla. At the age of 17, Harold joined the U.S. Army, serving ten months in the states and 14 months active duty in Italy. He was discharged in 1947, and returned home to Houghton. Harold worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in the Houghton area, before going to work for Bud and Everett Herseth and Clayton Ross driving livestock trucks. In 1952, Harold was united in marriage to Nellie Jean Lewis of Hecla. They made their home in Houghton, where they raised their five children. Harold started his own trucking business, hauling gravel in 1951. He later ran the business with his son, Alan, until retiring in 1997.

Harold loved his wiener dogs, and was proud to have come from a five generation wiener dog family. He also loved fishing and camping; and enjoyed taking his family to the same spot in Minnesota where his dad took him when he was kid. He also enjoyed his tire buying trips with his best friend, Quintan.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie; five children, Geraldine (Matt) Caspers and MaryLou Willhaus all of Hecla, Alan (Debbie) Winburn, Houghton, Tim Winburn, Los Angeles, CA, and Teresa (Scott) Meyer, Lidgerwood, ND; one brother,Ted Winburn, Houghton; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Erich Willhaus, and son-in-law, Ben Willhaus.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. His funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hecla, with lunch to follow. Burial will be at the Houghton Cemetery.
