(AP)- Dickinson State University basketball standout Janae Moore has died in a traffic crash in Montana. Moore, 20, died Wednesday morning when the pickup truck she was driving crashed near her hometown of Sidney, Mont., according to the Highway Patrol.
Moore was a standout both on the court and in the classroom, The Dickinson Press reported. She led the team last season with 14 points and seven rebounds per game and earned all-conference honorable mention honors in the Frontier Conference. She also was named to the academic all-conference team.
DSU Athletic Director Tim Daniel said Moore was “an exemplary student athlete.”
“She played the game the same way she lived her life — with total commitment and dedication not only to her personal goals, but to everyone she was around,” DSU head women’s basketball coach Caleb Harrison said.
Teammate Jordyn Bender said Moore “was that girl who could always make you smile, no matter what.”
“She was not only a great teammate, but a great leader and great friend to all of us,” Bender said. “It was pretty hard for all of us that we lost a piece of our family.”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
