N.D. (AP) – A recall election for all five Griggs County commissioners has been set for October 8th. A petition drive seeking the recall election was launched after the commission voted this spring to proceed with building a .5 million courthouse and emergency operations center, despite voters rejecting the idea three times in separate elections over the past two years.

Construction has begun on the new facility just south of the existing building, which is the oldest county courthouse in North Dakota that is still in its original use.

Some county residents want to save the old courthouse, which was built in 1884 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
