VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- It was a statement win for Valley City softball Tuesday night. The No.3 Hi-Liners won their 6th Eastern Dakota Conference game 14-1 over No.9 West Fargo Sheyenne in game that went just 5 innings.

Valley City jumped to an early lead with a 6 run first inning capped off by a 3 run home run by Lexi Ondracek that chased out Mustang starter Kiley Washnieski after just 2/3 of an inning. The Hi-Liners would score 3 more times in the 2nd and 5 more in the 3rd.

Hailey Schaefer drove in 4 runs to lead Valley City. Kacee White and McKenna Taylor had 2 RBI each. Maddie Buchert plated Sheyenne’s lone run in the 4th.

In the circle, Schaefer got the win with 9 strike outs. She scattered 3 hits with 3 walks.

The win was the 4th straight for Valley City. Over that stretched they’ve outscored their opponents 44-2. Coach Jason Lindgren says he’s been happy with what the defense has been able to do the last few games

 

There’s just 2 conference games left on the schedule with The EDC Tournament starting next Thursday and The Hi-Liners still in contention for the region title. But right now the focus is this Thursday’s game which is West Fargo

 

The Hi-Liners host The Packers beginning at 4:30. They will be a cook out to raise to money during the game.

Recent USA Softball Hall of Fame Inductee Dick Gulmon threw out the first pitch
