OKLAHOMA CITY (NewsDakota.com) – After giving up two runs in the first inning, it was all Jamestown after that in a 14-4 win over York College (Neb.) in the Oklahoma City Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round Monday afternoon.
Isiah Bond launched a two-run homer off of Jimmie starter Shane Groth in the top of the first inning, but that would be almost all the Panthers were able to muster against the senior. Groth struck out 10 and gave up three earned runs over seven strong innings.
“It’s pretty easy when you score 14,” Groth said after the game deflecting the credit.
The Jimmie offense picked him up after that two-run homer with a seven spot in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Ludlow, Quinn Irey and Scooter Turin had three straight run scoring hits to push across four runs.
Ludlow added a two-run homer in the fourth ahead of an RBI double in Jamestown’s five-run fifth. They scored five runs on five hits, three of which went for extra bases. Ludlow finished 3-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBIs.
Irey was 4-4 with a double before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 7th.
Jamestown will come back and play top-seeded Oklahoma City at 6pm tonight in the third and final game of day one. You can listen on ESPN Jamestown (AM 1400/107.1 FM).
