Coach’s Comments

Wow.  Another match another barn burner.  We have seen another form a close within this match.

Seven…three-set…matches.

I have neven been a part of a 7 3-set match nor ever heard of one within North Dakota high school tennis.  First serve was at 4pm and we didn’t finish until 8:20pm.  I don’t know of any other sport where a varsity player competes for over four hours.

Within the three set matches, we went 3-4.  We needed to win one more to win the match.  In those four losses, every loss was only by 2 games at 4-6.  We were right there.

We were a step slow today.  We took points/strokes off mentally and physically.  We played tentative at times.  We weren’t patient and went for too much at times.

But we fought.  We fought through fatigue.  We fought through the elements.  We fought through a new line-up.  We fought through outside stressors.  I’m proud of our team for our fight.

Cali came back from a set down to beat a 2-time state singles qualifier.  Hannah Aberle won a very tight match in which she just played tennis.  Hope and Angela cruised to a 2-set victory.  Kayla Triebold played #1 doubles for the first time and lost in three sets.  Reagan, Cali, and Hannah A. all played 6 sets today while Angela and Hope played 5.

Great match Hi-Liners.  We will learn from this match and become better from it.
