ENDERLIN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- After falling in their season opener via the run rule to Enderlin/Maple Valley, the Oakes High baseball team split the season series with a 7-4 victory at Hendrickson Field Monday night.
The Tornadoes (6-2 Class B Region I) started off the contest with an RBI single from Adam Newstel in the top of the first inning.
Newstel would add another RBI single off of Chance Bye in a three-run third inning to give Oakes a 4-0 lead.
The Falcons (6-2) would rally for three runs in the bottom part of the third and tie the game in the fourth with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bye.
It would be as close as EMV would get, as in the top of the sixth, Oakes’ Taylor Schall connected for a two-run home run; which proved to be the eventual game winning hit.
Sam Huffman eared the victory for Oakes, going four innings, while allowing a run on two hits. Bye took the loss for EMV, throwing six innings, with four earned runs on nine hits to go along with seven strikeouts.
Oakes welcomes winless Northern Cass to Cummings Field Tuesday, with coverage starting at 4:20 p.m. on The Tornado KDDR-AM 1220/95,9 FM and NewsDakota.com.
EMV is off until Thursday when they travel to Kindred to face Kindred/Richland.
