WAVERLY, IA (VCSUVikings.com) – Valley City State’s golf teams closed the season strong on Tuesday, shooting their best rounds of the NSAA Tournament during the fourth and final round.

The Viking men scored the second-best round of the day as they moved up to third place at the NSAA Tournament. Valley City State’s men carded a team total of 298 during Tuesday’s final round, finishing only behind Bellevue’s 291 for the day.

The strong finish helped the Vikings move past Viterbo University for third place overall at the tournament. VCSU entered the day seven shots behind Viterbo, but the Vikings were 14 shots lower than the V-Hawks during the final round.

Four Viking golfers earned Honorable Mention All Conference after finishing in the Top 14 at the tournament. Jared Lentz led the way with an eighth-place finish, coming in at 18-over par (306, 81-74-74-77). Jeremie Pasitney fired a team-best 73 on Tuesday as he placed 10th overall (309, 75-76-85-73).

Cameron Rall and Kyle Wiebe both shot 74’s on Tuesday and finished the tournament tied for 14th. Rall went 80-80-79-74 in his four rounds, while Wiebe finished with scores of 79-85-75-74. Casey Julson rounded out the Viking men with a 22nd-place finish (319, 76-86-80-77).

University of Jamestown won the men’s title with a 1189 total, while Bellevue was nine shots back in second place. VCSU was third with a 1231 total, narrowly edging Viterbo (1238).

Rounds three and four of the tournament were played Monday and Tuesday at Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa. Rounds one and two were played during the fall season at Bully Pulpit Golf Course in Medora, N.D.

On the women’s side, Valley City State improved its team score by 13 shots on Tuesday as they fired an even round of 400 to close out the tournament. Tory Anderson had a team-low score of 93 on Tuesday. Taren Braunberger followed with a 99, Megan McNamee had a 103 and Mikayla Smith finished with a 105.

Valley City State’s women placed 6th as a team. University of Jamestown won the women’s title while Bellevue finished second. Viterbo placed third, followed by Waldorf, Dickinson State and VCSU.
