MADISON, S.D. (PlayNorthStar.com)- Valley City State University track and field athletes Megan Johnson and Kyle Odegard have both been honored with North Star Athletic Association Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards, the conference office announced Tuesday. Johnson (long jump) and Odegard (javelin) both met the NAIA “A” standard on Friday to qualify for nationals in their respective events.

North Star Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Megan Johnson – Valley City State (N.D.) – Senior – Enderlin, N.D. – Johnson hit the NAIA ‘A’ standard in women’s long jump at Blue Hawk Games for Valley City State (N.D.).  She won the long jump with a mark of 5.80 meters (19 feet, .5 inches).  She broke her own school record of 5.57 meters set last year, and she now ranks 12th in the nation and leads the North Star in long jump.  Johnson also placed third in the high jump after clearing the height measurement of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch).

North Star Athletic Association Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Kyle Odegard – Valley City State (N.D.) – Freshman – Lisbon, N.D. – Odegard became the No. 7-ranked javelin thrower in the NAIA as he qualified for the NAIA Nationals with an ‘A’ standard of 59.73 meters (195 feet, 11 inches) for Valley City State (N.D.).  His toss won the Northern State (S.D.) Twilight meet by more than four meters and is the second farthest throw in school history.  Odegard now ranks first in the NSAA by more than four meters.
