CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Construction has continued through the prolonged North Dakota winter for the new Carrington Elementary School.

Work began in April 2017 on the 66,495 square-foot addition that will have a shared kitchen and cafeteria with the High School along with a new gymnasium, locker rooms, weight room and mechanical room. The estimated $16 million project looks to be completed before this fall.

Carrington School Superintendent Brian Duchscherer reports that there have only been some minor setbacks as they continue working on the project.

As far as progress goes, Duchscherer is confident they’ll have their students inside the new building this fall.

Once the school is completed, it will serve roughly 265 elementary and 235 high school students from Foster County as well as portions of Wells, Stutsman, and Eddy counties.

Duchscherer says the school board took steps at a recent board meeting to provide new playground equipment as well as some other potential renovations at the High School.

The playground will be located on the southeast side of the Elementary School. Duchscherer says the board also looked at what should be done with the old building.

Duchscherer says it’ll take some more meetings before they decide officially what will be done with the building.
