JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Earlier this week, the North Dakota Game & Fish Department requested the help of the public in locating active bald eagle nests across the state.
The department is always looking for locations of nests with eagles present and not just eagle sightings. Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier says there’s potentially more than 240 nests in the state.
Leier says eagles have been nesting since February and are incubating eggs this month. While residents are encouraged to report nests, they’re not being asked to actively go out and seek them. Leier says if you see it while you’re driving, fishing or walking to report it.
He says there are some typical places a person is likely to find an eagle nest.
In other bird news, Leier gave an update on the snow geese migration they’ve been seeing.
Leier also reports that individuals who may still be ice fishing to be careful, with weaker ice being reported across multiple waters in North Dakota.
You can listen to Doug Leier chat the outdoors with JD in the Morning every Thursday at 7:20 PM on Big Dog 95.5 FM.
