FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The final 12 minutes of Friday’s EDC Loser Out game belonged to Fargo North. The Spartans outscored Valley City 28-8 to hand them a season ending 49-39 defeat.

Neither team was able to find any offense early in the game, it wasn’t until nearly 3 minutes into the game when Taryn Dieterle opened scoring. The first half was back and forth until Valley City started to settle in and went into the half up 22-19.

A 9-2 run to begin the second half pushed The Hi-Liners ahead 31-21 with 12:09 left to play. North took a time and came out fast to tie the game at 32. Behind a combined 15 second half points from Anna Astrup and Mary Sem, The Spartans were able to put the game out of reach.

Valley City shot 25% from the field while going just 3 for 22 from 3 point range. North shot 33% and 2 3’s in 22 attempts. At halftime The Hi-Liners owned the edge on the board 25-15, they ended the game with 45 rebounds to The Spartans 36. North took advantage of their trips to the foul line going 11 for 18.

Astrup finished with a game high 15 points for Fargo North. Sem added 13 and Abby Naseth 8.

Courtney Lloyd paced Valley City with 13 points. Taryn Dieterle had a double double of 12 points and 10 boards. Lindsey Noeske had 6 point and 5 boards. Lexi Ondracek added 3 points. Mackenzie Pederson pulled down 9 rebounds.

Fargo North, who lost the previous 2 meeting with VCHS this season, will play in a state qualifying Saturday against Devils Lake at 2:30. The Firebirds lost to Davies 64-49 in the semifinals.

Valley City ends the season with a 9-15 mark. Mackenzie Pederson, Courtney Lloyd and Lexi Ondracek played the final games of their careers as Hi-Liners.
