Jamestown, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Medina-Pingree-Buchanan (MPB) Thunder, ranked second in state defeated fourth rated Carrington 59-50 to capture the Region 3 girls basketball title.
The Thunder shot a blistering 51% from the field, connecting on 21 of 41 shots. The Thunder were even better from outside the arc, making 8 of 12 from 3-point land. Carrington led after every break through 3 quarters and built a 9 point lead at 46-37 late in the third quarter. MPB ended the third quarter on a 8-0 and trailed 46-45. The Cardinals were outscored 14-4 in the final quarter.
Jadyn Pollert scored a game high 18 points, Megan Moser 15 points, Amanda Allen 12 points (4 0f 5 on 3-pointers), and Halle Uehran 8 points paced the Thunder offense. Uehran added a game high 8 rebounds. Carrington was paced by Kadyn Mehring with 14 points and 10 from Bella Hone. Haley Hewitt, Emerson Hoornaert, and Jill Endres all finished with 6 points. Carrington finished the year 20-5 and ranked number 4 in the state class B poll. MPB improved to 22-2 and were ranked second in the final poll.
3rd place: Edgely-Kulm-Montpeiler (EKM) 55 Lamoure-Litchville-Marion 51
Tallie Hanson scored a team high 18 points and 8 rebounds to help lead the Rebels past LLM 55-51. Katie Entzi added 17 points and 7 rebounds for the Rebels. Peyton Brandenburg added 8 points for EKM. The Loboes were paced by Anna Holen who finished her stellar prep career with a game high 31 points (6 0f 12 on 3-pointers) and 9 rebounds. Holen finished her career with 2,001 total points and was voted the Region 3 Senior Athlete of the Year. Kindra Hamlin added 9 points for the Loboes. EKM finished the season 21-4 and the Loboes finished the season 20-4.
Region 3 coach of the year went to Brett Thielges of MPB.
