BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Highway Hall of Honor is seeking nominations of people who have made a difference in North Dakota’s highway system.
The Highway Hall of Honor serves two purposes: (1) to recognize those who have had a major role and made a lasting or valuable contribution to the development of the highway system on the state, county, or local level; and (2) to draw attention to the vital functions that safe roads and ease of transportation play in the economic and social well-being of the people of North Dakota.
The criteria are very broad. We’re not just looking for engineers or those involved in construction. We’re also looking for people who have worked hard to improve the region’s transportation system, or have used their influence and expertise as members of national or regional organizations to improve our system’s effectiveness or safety.
Each nominee will be judged according to the following criteria:
· Major achievements in transportation in North Dakota.
· Significant contributions to the development of others in transportation in North Dakota.
· Special service to the state of North Dakota in transportation activities.
· Activities that bring credit to North Dakota transportation, either nationally or internationally.
Forty-eight North Dakota men and women, living and deceased, have been inducted into the Hall of Honor since it was established in 1974. Past inductees have included contractors, legislators, consultants, and county commissioners, but are not limited to only those professions. Nominations may come from anyone. For an official nomination form, visit our web site at www.dot.nd.gov, or write Laurie Martin, North Dakota Department of Transportation, 608 East Boulevard Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58505-0700, or call her at 701-328-2584. Nominations must be post marked by Friday, March 9, 2018.
The Highway Hall of Honor committee will review the nominations and vote to induct one or several new members into the Hall during the NDDOT Centennial Celebration “Transportation Expo” in May in Bismarck. The committee is comprised of representative for highway contractors, city and county organizations, motor carriers, and the Department of Transportation.
