VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City has three commission seats up for election in the June 12th primary/election.

City commissioner Matt Pedersen will not pursue another term. He encouraged people to take out a petition and run for the open position. Pedersen said being on the commission has been a rewarding experience. He will continue to be involved with flood protection for the city and looks forward to his new role on the State Water Commission.

Commission president Dave Carlsrud said he plans to seek election to a full term. Carlsrud was elected nearly two years ago to fill out the remaining term of former mayor Bob Werkhoven who resigned.

Commissioner Duane Magnuson said he’ll likely seek another term on the commission.

City Auditor Avis Richter encouraged people to take out a petition to get the necessary signatures to run in this year’s election. She said Valley City residents seeking to run for any of these positions need to get their petition with the necessary signatures back to the city auditor’s office by April 9th at 4pm.

The citywide election will held June 12th at Barnes County Courthouse, 230 4th Street NW in Valley City. For those who wish to vote early, absentee ballots for city residents will be available May 3rd through June 11th at the Barnes County Auditor’s Office in the Barnes County Courthouse.
