JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For more than 30 years, the Jamestown Optimist Club has held their Spaghetti Fundraiser in conjunction with the annual Sports and Recreation Show.
The large fundraiser returns Friday at the Jamestown Civic Center starting at 5 PM in the Exchequer Room. Ken Astrup has been a member of the Optimist Club for over 30 years. He says all the funds they raise are given back to the community.
Club President Joseph Kraehenbuehl states that they’re purchasing 720 bike helmets that will be distributed to the kids in the area.
The cost is about $5 per helmet, so for $4,000 we can help hundreds of kids stay safe while sledding or riding bike,” he stated.
Astrup says they raise money for other causes involving kids too.
According to Astrup, the group is prepared for a big crowd. They have 60 lbs of hamburger, 45 gallons of sauce, 20 gallons of ice cream, 500 pieces of garlic toast and 15 gallons of lemonade and coffee.
Tickets are $8 per adult, $5 for students and free for kids five years and younger. They can be purchased from any Optimist Club member or at the door of the event at the Jamestown Civic Center.
“Once your done with the meal, be sure to check out the Black Hills Raptor show at 7 PM. It’s a great event for the kids,” Astrup pointed out.
