JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It was an entertaining evening at Jerry Meyer as the Jamestown High basketball teams welcomed in Bismarck High. The teams played to a split with the Blue Jay girls avenging an earlier loss with a 63-48 win. The boys fell short of an upset bid, 70-68.

GBB: Jays 63, Bismarck 48.

Jamestown came out on fire and built a 14-point first half lead behind seven triples, only missing four. The Jays extended that lead to 22 in the second half and never looked back. Megan Gaffaney finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Demons had beaten the Jays on a Caydee Ryckman three-pointer at the buzzer back in December so it was a little revenge for Jamestown, who now also holds the tiebreaker in a tightened race for the fourth spot in the west.

The girls are in Minot on Thursday at 7:30pm.

BBB: #3 Bismarck 70, Jays 68.

Maybe the best game the Jays have played on year as they continue to push the top teams in the state. Jamestown lead by eight at 43-35 early in the second half, before the Demons raced out on a 22-2 run.

Just when it looked like the wheels had come off, the Jays sprang back to life taking a 63-61 advantage on a Ryder Lunzman theft and layup. Bismarck scored the next seven including a dagger of a triple by Matt Trolliey that finished the run to make it 68-63.

Boden Skunberg hit a pair of contested shots sandwiched around a Trolliey layup and in the final seconds the score was 70-68. Joe Jahner missed two free throws to seal it and Skunberg brought the ball up and missed a three at the buzzer.

The Jays travel to Minot on Friday for a 7:30pm tip-off.
