N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Game & Fish Department is encouraging caution to anglers heading onto the ice.

According to Education Coordinator Brian Shaffer, extreme cold temperatures have created much better ice conditions in most of the state, but driving or fishing near pressure ridges should be avoided.

Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier.

Pressure ridges, cracks, and slushy or dark areas signal thinner ice.

Leier says off the ice, hunters are reminded to keep their eyes out for posted signs.

Leier says hunters and anglers also need to keep after themselves and refrain from littering.
