N.D.  (NewsDakota.com)  Day two of the 2018 Stutsman County Invitational Boys Class B Basketball Tourney continued on Friday with four games at the Civic Center.  The first game was the battle of the Mustangs and Midkota pulled out the one point victory South Border, otherwise the other three games were decided by a combined 48 points.  Here are the results:

Midkota 40 South Border 39

The first game of the day featured five lead changes and four ties as the Midkota Mustangs pulled out a one point victory over South Border to advance to Saturday’s consolation championship game.  Drew Utke led the way for Midkota with 12 points and four steals.  Leading the way for South Border was Collin Martz with 15 points and Alex Ruff added 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Ellendale 46 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 29

Hunter Thorpe scored 16 and Lucas Hofer added 13 for Ellendale as the Cardinals beat the Thunder and will play for fifth place on Saturday against Midkota.  Leading the way for the Thunder was Preston Martin with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 59 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 46

EKM led by six points at the half and outscored the Imperials 35-28 in the second half to secure the victory.  Senior Lane Hanson for the Rebels was five steals away from a triple double, 33 points, 21 rebounds and five steals to help his team move into the championship game on Saturday night.  Isaac Huber added 10 points.  Jamison Fettig scored 16 points and Pacey Feist had 11 for NGS.

Carrington 72 Kidder County 54

Junior Austin Schmidt poured in 35 points, including six 3-pointers but it wasn’t enough as the number one seed from District V will make their way into the Stutsman championship and try and defend their title against the Rebels on Saturday night.  The Cardinals had only a six point lead heading into halftime, but Carrington came out hot in the third quarter and outscored the Wolves 25-11 to take the 57-37 lead at the end of three.  Carrington was led by Sophomore Seth Nelson with 26 points and nine rebounds, 16 points in the third quarter.  Senior Garrett Bickett added 21 and Kolton Vetter had 11.  The Cardinals shot 57% from the field and 85% from the free throw line, 18/21.
