CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Every establishment that serves alcohol is required to undergo server training four times a year to meet a city ordinance.

As of last week three establishments needed to complete server training before the end of this year according to city officials who discussed the issue during a regular city commission meeting on December 19th.

The discussion centered on whether the Valley City Commission should delay the renewal of the liquor license of these establishments that failed to meet the qualification required by City Ordinance #1027 sections 4-01-05 and 4-01-06.

City Commissioner Mike Bishop said it angered him to see these establishments blow off this requirement and then expect the police department to drop everything to help them meet the server training compliance.

Bishop made a motion to have these businesses pay $200 for the server training to meet their compliance. Later in the meeting the city commission unanimously approved of his motion.

One of the establishments is the American Legion, one of the managers Ryan Leroux and the other manager, Jerry Bennefeld were present at the meeting. Leroux said they will pay the $200 and he apologized for putting the city in a bad spot. No one from the other two establishments, out of compliance, addressed the city commission during last week’s meeting.

Police Chief Phil Hatcher reminded all establishments that the police department offers required alcohol server training four times a year on a Sunday at no charge. For more details contact Phil Hatcher at the police department at 845-3110.

The following is some audio discussing this agenda item during a portion of the meeting on December 19th. The first speaker is City Administrator David Schelkoph followed by Police Chief Phil Hatcher, City Commissioner Mike Bishop and Ryan Leroux.
