FORMAN (NewsDakota.com) One would be hard-pressed to find the last time the Oakes High basketball teams scored a combined 125 points in a double-header, but such was the case on Monday night, as the Tornado girls won their second in a row, and the boys won their season opener.

The Tornado boys played first, took a 10-o start, and never looked back. Oakes’ defense limited the Cadets to just two points in both the first and third quarters.

Three players had double-figures for Oakes, lead by freshman Garret Meehl with 17. Senior Tyler Voightman added another 11, and junior Max Muggli put in 10.

Girls: Oakes 67 Sargent Central 17

The girls of Oakes, who had won by 40 in their last contest, bettered that mark by 10 on Monday. Up 25-8 after the first eight minutes, Oakes limited Sargent Central to just nine points the rest of the way.

Sophomore Jaida Seyer had a career nigh; besting the entire Cadet team with a total of 27 points, while sophomore Nichole Schmitz, playing for the first time since a concussion two weeks ago in the season opener, contributed an addition 20.

Brynn Peterson scored seven points in the defeat.

Oakes’ girls play at home Tuesday against Linton-HMB, while the boys play Friday at home in a doubleheader with the girls against Ellendale. Coverage Friday on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts around 5:45 p.m.
