N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2017 Stutsman County Invitational Girls’ Basketball Tournament kicked of at the Jamestown Civic Center on Thursday with four games, with all of the top seeds advancing to the semifinal round on Friday. The first three games were decided by 34 points or more, the fourth and final game looked liked it was going to be a lopsided game as well in the first half, but ended with a one point victory. Here’s are the results:
No. 8 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 56 Midkota 22
The District six number one seed rolled passed the Mustangs of Midkota in the first game, Halle Uehran led all scorers with 18 points including five rebounds. Amanda Allen added 11 and Taylor Sabinash had 10. For Midkota, Joslyn Hoyt had seven points. The Mustangs shot 27% from the field, while the Thunder shot 42% and 7/9 at the charity stripe. MPB improves to 3-0, the Mustangs fall to 0-3.
No. 5 Carrington 69 South Border 33
The Cardinals shot 48% from the field and 83% from the free throw line to win their second game of the season (2-0). Three players in double figures for Carrington, Addison Hoornaert led all scorers with 19 points, McKenzie Johnson added 14 and Emerson Hoornaert with 13 points. Leading the way for South Border (0-3) was Faith Dockter with 18.
No. 9 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 69 Warwick 32
Junior Katie Entzie had 24 points and seven rebounds to help the Rebels improve to 3-0 and move into the second semifinal on Friday night. Tallie Hanson had 11 points as well for EKM. Junior and fifth year starter Madison Leaf for the Lady Warriors, had 25 points to lead all scorers, including two 3-pointers, she also had six steals. Warwick drops to 1-2. EKM shot 47% from the field, Warwick 35%.
Napoleon/Gackler-Streeter 45 Ellendale 44
In a game that featured five lead changes and two ties, the Imperials come from behind to get the victory and secure a spot in the second semifinal on Friday night against EKM. NGS was down by as many as 15 points in the first half. Senior MacKenzie Heflin led the way for the Imperials with 10 points, Bailey Heflin added nine, and two players tied with eight, Brianna Regner and Kaylin Weigel. Ellendale was led by Kennedy Schimke with 15, including three 3-pointers and four steals, Macy Young added 11. NGS gets their first victory of the year (1-2), the Cardinals drop to 2-1. These two teams met on November 28th, Ellendale won 38-32.
