N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – It’s hunting season for many different varieties of game, but one thing the Game & Fish Department is focused on is safety. Primarily in the early days of winter.

In some parts of the state, there are already small and mid-sized waters that show the appearance of safe ice. Even though deer might be able to make it across, doesn’t mean hunters can.

Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier says the unstable temperatures should deter hunters from attempting to cross what they might think is safe ice. As far as when the best time is to hunt? Leier says there’s no better time than right now.
