N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Lamoure-LM (LLM) Loboes defeated the Oakes Tornadoes 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20) and advanced to the Region 3 title match for the third consecutive year. The Loboes are also the two time defending state champions and need 1 more victory to reach the state tournament and defend their state title. The Thunder of Medina-Pingree-Buchanon (MPB) are the only team standing in the Loboes path to the Fargo Dome and the 2017 state tournament. MPB defeated Carrington in a 5 set match that ultimately went to extra points in the fifth set. MPB prevailed 3-2 (25-14, 20-25, 25-10, 22-25, 17-15).

Anna Holen smashed a match high 18 kills, 4 aces, and also added 14 digs to lead the Loboes back to the Region 3 title match. Kindra Hamlin added 15 kills and 13 digs and Ellie Holen finished with 11 kills and 11 digs. Jackie Meiklejohn had a match high 40 assists for LLM. Ana Mart led the Loboes with a match high 16 digs. Nicole Schmitz paced the Tornadoes with 15 kills. Makayla Wetzel added 8 kills for Oakes. Sadie Hanson had 26 assists to lead the Tornadoes. Oakes dropped to 25-10 overall and LLM improved to 40-1.

Halle Uehran drilled a match high 27 kills to lead the Thunder past Carrington 3-2. Uehran also added 31 digs and a pair of aces. Taylor Sabinash added 16 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 aces for the Thunder. Megan Moser collected 11 kills, 31 digs, and 2 aces to aid the Thunder victory. Janay a Huff had a match high 38 digs and Hannah Bohl finished the night with a match high 48 assists. McKayla McIntosh paced Carrington with 14 kills and added 23 digs. Emerson Hoornaert had a team high 24 digs, 2 aces, and added 7 kills. Bella Hone connected for 12 kills and 3 blocks. Addison Hoornaert had 34 assists for the Cards. MPB had a commanding 11-1 lead in the final set and appeared to be cruising to a very uneventful fifth set. Carrington would score 13 of the next 16 points and tie the final set up at 14-14. The Thunder would finally end the Cardinal’s upset bid scoring 3 of the final 4 points to win the 5th set 17-15.  Carrington dropped to 27-10 overall and MPB improved to 35-3 overall.

Carrington will play Oakes at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday night in the Region 3 third place game and LLM will play MPB 25 minutes after the third place match for the Region 3 championship. Pregame will start 5:40 and will be aired on TED FM 98.3 and www.newsdakota.com  The Oakes/Carrington match will also be aired on AM 1220 KDDR.
