III Qualifier: #3 Oakes def. #5 Barnes County North 3-1 (25-15, 25-8, 21-25, 25-11)
In the first of the qualifying matches, the Tornadoes (24-9) cruised through the first two sets, before the Bison (10-20) found their groove. In the fourth set, BCN started off well, but Oakes came back strong to move onto the next round.
The Tornadoes had 20 kills from Nicole Schmitz, and Makayla Wetzel added another 13. The Bison were lead by Jerica Kunze with seven kills.
Region III Qualifier: #4 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier def. #5 Ellendale (25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18)
Just like the first match, it appeared there would be a 3-0 sweep, but the Cardinals (12-15-1) forced a fourth set with a solid third frame.
The Rebels (20-12) registered 51 kills, with 29 coming from Katie Entzi. Ellendale picked up 40 kills; Katelyn Dathe had a team high 10.
District 5 Championship: #1 LaMoure-LM def. #2 Carrington 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21)
The number one and two seeds had quite the battle to decide who would win the title. In the end, it was Anna Holen’s 26 kills and Ellie Holen’s 13 kills that helped propel the Loboes (38-1) to their fifth straight title.
Emerson Hoornaert finished with 12 kills for the Cardinals (26-9), with McKayla McIntosh had an ace and nine kills.
